NAM KOO TERRACE

Stairway to Nam Koo Terrace Building

Being heard of the most haunted places such as Nam Koo Terrace better known as Wan Chai haunted house locates at 55 Ship street and Star Street Air Raid shelter which inspired me the most when I first went to HK and Macau in 1980s and recently there at the end of 2013, so I decided to head to this place which I explore the historical building of the past.

It was a winter season at that time in Dec, it was cool day for my hubby and I decided to walk down the memory lane in HK and the time went pass quickly.

There is a long concrete steps leading up to the building just beside it and I stood there as if it prevents me from going up and the ‘installed’ surveillance camera at the end of the steps where the gate is locked and barricaded.

Overlooking the Nam Koo Terrace in the city

As we headed to one of the haunted places to see the abandoned building – Nam Koo Terrace that has a long history in the past, is located at Ship Street and it located along the commercial/residential building. I was able to locate the building after I alighted from the public transport in Wan Chai in HK.

We walked along old Wan Chai district along the road and noticed there are not many Hong Kongers around in this district. I looked around the building and it was just in front of us and there was lot of construction on going at that time and it didn’t tear Nam Koo Terrace down, was once called it – Wan Chai Haunted house to local residents in HK for many decades. Built in 1915 in single storey and in 1921 when it built in two storey red brickwork house, I presume. Almost a century old of the old building sits in a forlorn and dilapidated. Was once use as brothel house or ‘comfort’ home to the women used by Japanese during Occupations till 1945. Nam Koo Terrace was also as a suicide house that over 30 ‘suicidal’ people would end their lives there until it was discovered over the years. It is now currently owned by Hopewell Holdings, a major property developer which is building a hotel complex next to the house. Although it was stated that Nam Koo Terrace was not specifically featured in the development plan approved by the Town Planning Board in 1994; the company has pledged to restore the historic site together with the new Hopewell Centre project. Mr. Thomas Wu, Co-Managing Director of Hopewell Holdings.

As my hubby was walking in front of me to look for the building and he stood there still and stared at the wall of the building up the slope. I walked up to him and asked him what happened. He said “I found it and there it is” as he pointed at above the hill where the construction going on, is going to build a hotel complex next to the abandoned house, just besides the construction and there is the stone concrete path steps to walk up and I could look to the right of the house. I felt thrilled to see the dilapidated house. But then I didn’t feel anything at first as it was in the daytime and in the evening soon there were a few people walking pass just outside the road.

When I was about to walk up the concrete steps on the hill slope to face the Nam Koo Terrace and there was a maid and a dog also walked up the steps. But before I felt tingling sensation when I saw a dog looking up at me as I was a few steps above a dog. I turned around and looked at a dog as if I was seeing ‘something’ about him. The maid didn’t notice at all as she was busying on her phone. There was a cool breeze blowing direction on my left when I stood facing the camera where my hubby took.

A ‘Shih Tzu’ dog stood besides Hopewell Holdings written on a banner

It stared straight blankly as it couldn’t hear me when I called out to him as if it saw something above the hill and I would not make out what it was. Because it wouldn’t look at me in the direction where I stood and took a photo just beside it! It was in the evening passed at 6pm and it was getting dark sooner or later.

A Maid and Shih Tzu dog on the concrete steps

Gosh! I was seeing an image of a person at the slope of the hill as if I was in the middle of nowhere after I turned around from the dog. Right after I composed my strong will and the image of a person was gone in seconds. I thought it was due to the cool weather that made me felt about this thing. And it wasn’t. So again, I called out a dog that stood beside the wall of the banner written “Hopewell Holdings”, stood right beside me, it stopped on its track still and it made a sound like ‘argh’ and I thought it was tired because of its running around the place earlier. The sound ‘argh’ and who could think a dog would make a human sound. Sound strange, right? The ‘foreign’ maid told me that they live just behind the abandoned building where the residences live nearby.

Residences building above just behind the Nam Koo Terrace

I walked up to the top of the steps (see above pic) and looked around the terrace and noticed there is a surveillance cameras installed around the house to prevent intruders. I stood still and looked observably at the building and it stopped me from going further up the steps and stared closely as seen in the photo above. It sent chills down my spine as if I was seeing double.
Again my mind was spinning sensation in my head as if someone stood in this building. So I just brushed it off and looked down the dog and the maid who were moving around the steps. When I get down the steps and saw the dog hovering down and not to look at me! The grilled window (pic below) where the ‘opened’ old fashioned grilled gate which I saw the ‘dark’ image stood inside as if the ‘thing’ was lost in space.

1st Level of Nam Koo Terrace

Later, I saw the grilled window of the 1st level where there is a signboard on it indicating that “No Trespassing...” and there are surveillance cameras one at the 1st level and the other one at 2nd level of the building facing the construction from where I stood earlier. Before that, there was no surveillance cameras and many people went in despite of the dangers on the slope of the hill and it was barricaded later that year after a series of incidents have taken place. I noticed the red-brickwork wall was painted in yellow as if it ward off the spirits away!

Banyan Tree next to the building going cut down soon

It was cool weather and I could hear the ‘rustling’ of the bushes and the leaves above the roof of the building as if there was ‘present’ inside the building. I felt goosebumps on my hand.
The Banyan tree that stood next to the abandoned building and the residences’ building and it was going to cut down because there was a mark in yellow pasted onto the tree. Heard from the locals that during at nights, there was eerie sound coming from the tree!

I quickly walked down the steps to where my hubby was just stood at the bottom of the steps because he couldn’t walk up, he would say it’s eerie to walk up the steps facing the abandoned building and there’s lots of surveillance cameras around as if it could capture the sightings or intruders lurking around the building. The last thing I could hear the ‘faint’ voices calling out “Good bye!” echoed in the air while I hastily walked down the steps! I thought it was the residences’ voice above the hill but it was weird voices then.

Such a beautiful red-brickwork villa was once stood away from busy traffic and yet it left abandoned for years till now and it has no future plans announced since 2008. There is a Wan Chai Heritage Trail that was launched on 27 September 2009 by the Old Wan Chai Revitalisation Initiatives Special Committee (OWCRISC) if you would like to explore or you believe it is haunted.

Doll with Black Eyes

Recently, I saw news about ‘Sex’ doll or ‘Angel from Heaven’ doll which described by Thai police and locals in Thailand and other countries. These dolls that people would find in the remote river or can be bought from websites or from the old shops. Other sinister dolls that appeared in the movies – Child’s Play, Voodoo doll or Annabella. Many people would think it is a cursed doll or devilish doll that their children could hold.

The doll’s eyes that looked innocent to you and shiny bright but all I could say it was a sinister doll to me that I had encountered as a kid of 11 year old.

Usually, girls like me loved all kind of dolls for as long as parents and relatives bought for us as a ‘Christmas’ present. A doll with black eyes and you could say its demonic eyes that people should avoid.

One of the dolls that I keep for a long time that reminds me of the past, taken from my mum’s house because she said this doll with black eyes, is special to me when I was a kid back then and it often there for me when I slept.

A long time ago, I could carry a rag doll along to where I was going to and it just followed me whenever I went. When my family and I visited my late grandma’s village in early 1970s during school holiday. I brought my doll along, one of my cousin’s younger sister saw me and back away from me. I had no ideas of what happened, it seems that she was afraid of me or what.

After I put down my ragged doll on the wooden bed at my late grandma’s room, joined my cousins for games and I totally forgot about the doll that left on the wooden bed.
After dinner, I went back to the room and found it missing. I searched around the room and wouldn’t find it and I thought it must be my cousin who took it because she saw me earlier in the morning. So I confronted her and she started to cry as if she was frightened. Then my cousins came rushing in after they heard her cry. I felt bad and forgot the doll completely.

Next day, my cousin came in and shouted that there was a commotion outside my grandma’s villages. We run out of the village, walked up the hill and found a boy from other village opposite the road in the forest, fainted next to the pond and there was a doll lying near him! I stood frozen still, a doll’s head turned awkwardly right at me as if it looked shocked or innocent. I was stunned! I picked it up as they didn’t see a doll was there earlier because they were too busy attending to a boy. Later a boy came round due to fainting spell and he looked at me very frightening and terrifying, couldn’t say a word, not even his parents! As if I stood transparent to him and the others.  I couldn’t believe it! I thought he had made a pact with a person of whom I didn’t know. So I didn’t think much of it.

Late at night, I slept followed by a loud thud, the doll was missing again! This time, I was aware something was not right. I waked up, looked around and walked out of the room, it was so dark and couldn’t see clearly, so I used fluorescent lamp that normally used in kampong at that time. I searched my doll every corner and niche in the house and found nothing. I thought it must be gone somewhere outside the house. But the door was locked and I saw the wooden window ajar, I looked outside and saw a doll walked awkwardly to that direction where a boy fainted earlier! Feeling frightened, I run hastily back to the room, left fluorescent lamp in the hall, covered a blanket over me and slept till the next morning.

In the morning, my cousin again shouted and everybody run out of the house and there was a large python lying dead in the bushes and a doll was a few away from it. Again I picked it and went back to the room as if nothing happened.
In the afternoon, I looked at my doll’s black eyes and it stared at me sinisterly, I freaked out and a doll dropped on the floor and I heard a word “Ouch!”, It started to move its head, tilted to one side looked at me angrily.. Suddenly, a boy who fainted earlier that day, came running towards me, saw my doll on the floor and he stood frozen and visibly shaken. After a few minutes, he became quiet and said in a low voice that it was my doll that saved his life from a large python in the field near the pond. I was shocked and couldn’t believe my ear! But what about the ‘dead’ large python? Nobody knew.

After a boy left the room, a doll suddenly spoken in a low voice and said that she killed a python because it often appeared in the village at nights to hunt its prey. I was too shocked to hear those words coming from my doll as if there was a spirit reside it. Later that year, my family and I visited the temple and I brought the doll along with me. The monk looked at it and felt uneasy, asked to be burned it as advised otherwise it would bring an unfortunate events and I was very sad. I let it go in peace. No words came from a monk after it burned. On that same year, the monk who saw my doll and had passed on, was told by senior monk. Maybe a spirit resided my doll had revenged on him. I don’t know and don’t think about it otherwise a spirit would unhappy as if it killed a human being in a silent hour or he (monk) was sick at that time. Being young at 11 year old, who could think a spirit would harm a child that could hold it gently for a long time.

In the late 1970s, my mum bought a new doll similar to the one that I had. But it is porcelain ‘coin-bank’ doll from a rag doll that had transformed into. It has the same ‘Black’ eyes. When I look at it and it smiled that gives me the creeps! It brought back to life again? I wonder but it wasn’t and it (spirit) was no longer there. As years goes by, I realised that my ragged doll was indeed a demonic doll with black eyes back then that would harm anyone who provokes it. But still I had no ideas who bought this doll to me in the first place, as I was busy celebrating Christmas with my cousins and villager kids. Only I could remember that my ragdoll was once a lovely doll and to protect the village folks and children from creatures that lurking in the forests.

Till to this day, I still keep a porcelain doll that my mum bought, in the display cupboard.

Possession epidemic hits schools in Malaysia

Mystery 'body possession' epidemic sweeps through Malaysian schools, causing teachers and pupils to collapse while 'being pinned down by evil spirits'

Students claim they are seeing evil spirits such as female vampiric ghosts
The incident of mass hysteria saw 20 students sent home from one school
One teacher also complained of being physically pinned down by a spectre
Religious leaders have been invited into schools to remove the 'bad spirits'

Education chiefs in the Kota Baru region are now using shamans and religious leaders to try and clear the schools of the supposed 'bad spirits'.
The latest school to be struck by the hysteria was SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1, which avoided spreading it by sending five female students home for the day.
Those affected by the bizarre hysteria claim to be overwhelmed by bad spirits and see spirits such as the pontianak, a type of female vampiric ghost popular in Malaysian folklore.
Pontianaks are said to be the spirits of women who died while giving birth who return to prey on men.
Teacher Norlelawati Ramli, 32, even claimed she felt something pinning her down after she tended to a student who was complaining of seeing demons.
Wiru Sankala, a traditional medicine expert, told the website the hot weather and earlier reports of the hysteria were perpetuating the problem

KOTA BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - There seems to be an "epidemic" of mass hysteria after three more schools were affected over the past one week.

The latest schools to be struck with the "body possession phenomenon" are SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1 (five female students), SMK Kemumin (20 students) and SMK Kubang Kerman 3 (eight students).
The school administration of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1 managed to control the situation by sending the affected students home to stop other students from being affected.

A students affairs head, who declined to be named, confirmed that the students were struck by alleged hysteria.

At SMK Kemumin, 20 female students from four classes were overwhelmed by the same phenomenon and were immediately sent home.

A check at the school at 8am on Monday (April 18) showed that the students were gathered to recite religious verses in an attempt to rid the bad spirits from the school.

Meanwhile, a renowned local traditional medicine expert, Wiru Sankala, said the hot weather and repressed emotion and the reports of the mass hysteria that went viral could be the cause of the hysteria that has affected several schools.

State deputy education director Jaafar Ismail said the schools should be left alone to sort out the problem.

SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 first reported cases of hysteria, affecting more than 100 students and teachers. The school was shut down on Thursday.
--------------------------------------------
The problem became so bad that education chiefs resorted to sending shamans and other religious practitioners in to the schools in an effort to cleanse the buildings of evil spirits.

But are these really cases of paranormal phenomena or is there something else going on ?

----------------------------------------------

Currently, a spate of cases on hysteria in SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2, Kota Baru, has the nation wondering how to deal with such a situation. So far, authorities have decided to close down the school after a ‘black figure’ was spotted on camera. The picture is currently making its rounds on social media.

Black figure, supposedly of the apparition, caught on camera by a student

The news has gotten international press recognition, most recently being covered by UK paper The Telegraph detailing the issue with testimony of teachers as well as students.

Universiti Malaysia Pahang Lecturer created an anti-hysteria kit!!!???

Flashback to May 2015. Universiti Malaysia Pahang had a lecturer who released an anti-hysteria kit. In fact, Dr Mahayuddin Ismail from the university’s Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences still has a webpage on the university website promoting his ‘pre-commercial’ product.
The vice-chancellor of the university, Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim, had even gone to the press to give testimony that this product from his institution’s work at the Education Ministry’s office in Putrajaya on April 30, highlighted here in The Malay Mail Online dated May 1, 2015.

The kit includes salt, vinegar, black pepper and even chopsticks, priced at RM8,500 which includes expert training, further treatment if cases are chronic, three refills for items in the kit, a lecture session, risk management costs and even online consultation services.

After the kit’s media coverage received brickbats, the lecturer himself came out and said that this kit worked, going so far as to say that he has tested the kit on 50 cases successfully. In fact, Mahyuddin goes so far to say that the kit had been used in cases in schools in Kedah successfully. However, he doesn’t mention which schools.

Ghostly monk filmed at old abandoned church

Two paranormal investigators recorded a strange figure during a visit to a church in Clophill, England.
48-year-old Dean Johnson and his partner Charlie had traveled to the ruins of Old St Mary's Church earlier this month in the hope of capturing something paranormal on camera.

"We had been standing on the public road outside the church for 10 minutes and my partner Charlie was testing the camera on his phone," said Dean. "When Charlie looked back at his camera footage there appeared to be a black hooded monk walking across the archway."

The pair remain adamant that nobody else had been there at the time and upon further investigation they discovered that the tower was locked meaning that the figure would have had nowhere to go.

"Apparently in the 1960s there were a number of satanic rituals at the church where people were digging up bones and arranging them in satanic patterns," said Charlie. "We've travelled the length of Britain looking for evidence of ghosts but this is the best evidence we'd have so far."

Sleeping in a coffin anyone?

Well. It claimed that its ritual will "cleansed" your karma and become a new person!  Hmm. Well. Nothing of sort from the actual buddhist practice.
